With Big Jones stepping up its game, and Garden & Gun arriving any day in the mailbox, it seems like Low Country's the new something this year. And we're one hundred percent fine with that. Boils, shrimp and grits, baked oysters, black-eyed peas? Yup. It's enough to make us forget that South Carolina has also given us Strom Thurmond, Myrtle Beach, and modern day racism.

We're getting this thing started tonight at Revolution Brewing's Lowcountry Beer Dinner and Shrimp Boil. (Looks like tix are still available.) The menu for this thing looks silly, especially the boil itself: head-on shrimp, house-made andoullie sausage, red skin potatoes, corn, and house-made hot sauce. We expect to get more head tonight than Wilt Chamberlain at Senor Frogs.

Vincent's Koffeeshop is back, this time with a slightly smaller menu, but with some new shee. Walking chili, deep-fried oreos, poutine? Yup. We'll be all over that.

We showed up last month and found a low-lit, nag champa-smelling joint playing real, actual, not-bullshit, good-ass hip hop. And we drank grape drank with a glow stick. Not to mention filled up on salami and mayonnaise sandwiches on Wonderbread. (Bring that back, Chrissy Camba!) We expect more of the same this Sunday at 9:30.

According to Tasting Table, GT Fish and Oyster is offering half-off oysters after 10PM every night except Saturday. That's a deal if we've ever heard of one. Oysters ain't cheap, so we'll gladly take 'em for less than two bucks. Even if we have to go to River North to get them.

We stopped in a few nights ago and can report that, yes, this is true: Fish Guy's slangin' bay scallops again. The updated joint is a bit sleeker, a bit whiter, and now features a stainless steel bar and bench running the length of the front window. We're told the bar and window seating will be open through lunch/market hours, after which tables will be set up on the market floor and dinner will be served. Think classic, simply prepared dinners: 8 oz protein, starch, and vegetables. And they've got that goddamn lobster roll. We love that thing.
