Beer festivals can typically be summed up in several layers of prejudice: hella beards, protruding bellies, overbearing flatulence and the pure fucking geekery over water, malt, yeast and hops. Nevertheless, we dare to say that there is a single festival here in the White City which detours from course. The moniker: Festival of Barrel Aged Beers; many heads know it simply as FOBAB. As you can image from the title of this thing, they’re not just serving Half Acre’s Daisy Cutter or DFH’s 60 Minute. All beers are considered experimental and all beers have been aged in some form of wood barrel. Getting the tap list prior to this event is like being granted inside access to Moses on Mt. Sinai prior to the unveiling of the Ten Commandments.
Couple days ago, Goose Island did us a favor and released their lineup for the event so there would be ten less beers to worry about. If you’ve got tickets to this thing, yowza; if not, just hope that the brewery ends up bottling some of this shit:
Bourbon County Stout
Bramble Rye Bourbon County Stout (Rye Barrels with Blackberries and Raspberries)
Bourbon County Manhattan Stout (Aged in barrels used to age Manhattan cocktails)
Bourbon County Coffee Stout
Bourbon County Ghost Pepper Stout
Lolita
King Henry (Bourbon Barrel Aged Barleywine)
Madame Rose
Amara
Scarlett
Goose Island Clyborn will also be at the event serving up an entirely different lineup of hand crafted brews, so this basically only gets more stupid from here through D-Day on November 12th. Stay up.
