Eater Chicago gets a preview of Tony Montuano’s new Bar Toma, located in the old Bistro 110 space across from the Water Tower. Their pics don’t convey a ton (unless you love plywood and unpainted drywall) but one can see there will be a lot going on here: gelato station, espresso bar, pizza bar, some sit down service(?), a mozzarella bar.
Says Montuano: “Every town in Italy, no matter the size, has that central meeting point for espresso and cornetti, wine and lunch and pizza at dinner.”
Seems like the kind of joint we’d love to hit for lunch if it wasn’t in the middle of the Gold Coast, surrounded by tourists and socialites, far away from where we actually spend our lunch money. When Gluttons HQ moves to Michigan Ave, we’ll let you know how the mozzarella bar tastes.
